Nothing Has Worked for Years — Your Luck Cycle Is the Timeline, Not the Ending
You have tried. Different jobs. Different approaches. Different mindsets. Therapy, self-help, exercise, meditation. You have shown up, consistently, for years.
And still the big things do not move. Career stays stalled. The relationship does not come or does not work. Money stays tight, not desperate, just the same. Every year.
You look at people around you and wonder what they have that you do not. You look at your own effort and wonder what you are doing wrong. The ugliest version of the thought: maybe this is just my life. Maybe some people get movement and some people do not, and I drew the short one.
Luck Cycles are real, and they are long
In the Four Pillars system, your life divides into ten-year phases called Luck Cycles. Each cycle carries a different elemental emphasis. Some cycles support your Day Master, conditions are favorable, effort gets rewarded, things move. Other cycles challenge your Day Master, same effort, different result.
A difficult cycle can last ten years. Sometimes two in a row. The full mechanics of these phases — how they are calculated and what they mean — are explained in Understanding Your Luck Cycles. That is twenty years of working hard and getting less back than you put in.
If that is where you have been, the futility is not in your head. It is real. And it is also temporary, in a way that only becomes visible when you can see the full map.
The mistake most people make
People in a difficult cycle tend to do one of two things. They either push harder, doubling down on effort the conditions will not reward, or they give up entirely, concluding nothing works and nothing ever will.
Both mistakes come from the same source: treating a seasonal condition as a permanent one.
A farmer in a drought does not conclude rain does not exist. He conserves. He prepares. He waits. Not because he is an optimist. Because he understands the pattern.
Your Luck Cycle works the same way. The phase you are in is not your identity. It is the weather. Weather changes.
What to do
First, stop interpreting the lack of results as evidence you are not enough. You might be planting exactly the right seeds in exactly the wrong season. That is a timing problem. Not a worth problem.
Second, find out where you are in your cycle. Not to use it as an excuse. To know whether this is a season for pushing or a season for preparing. Some cycles reward bold moves. Others punish them hard. Doing the right thing at the wrong time looks exactly like doing the wrong thing, and wastes years you cannot get back.
Third, look ahead. Your chart contains the full timeline. The cycle after this one may be dramatically different. Knowing that changes how you spend the months leading up to it.
Common Questions
Why has nothing worked for years despite my effort? You may be in a genuinely difficult Luck Cycle — and a difficult cycle can last a decade. The futility is real, and it is temporary. Your chart contains the full timeline, not just the current chapter.
How long do difficult Luck Cycles last? Luck Cycles run in ten-year blocks. A hard cycle can span most of a decade, which is why the failure feels structural rather than seasonal. The timeline matters: what looks like 'nothing works' can be a long winter, not a judgment on your life.
What should I do during a hard cycle? Stop measuring the season by the harvest. Consolidate, build quietly, protect what exists, and treat the cycle as the timeline rather than the ending. People who do this are positioned to move the moment the cycle shifts.
