# How to Read Your BaZi Chart: 5 Things to Look For

You just ran your BaZi chart. You are looking at eight characters — four Heavenly Stems and four Earthly Branches — arranged in four pillars. It looks like a foreign language. Because it is.

Here is what to actually look for. In order.

## 1. Your Day Master

Find the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. This is the second line from the top in the third column. It will be labeled with an element: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water.

This is your Day Master. It is the single most important piece of information in your chart. It describes your core self — not who you were raised to be, not who your job requires you to be, but your default operating mode.

Read the description. Sit with it. Most people feel an immediate recognition or resistance. Both are informative.

## 2. Your Element Balance

Look at the element distribution in your chart. Which elements appear most? Which are absent?

If your chart is heavy in Water, you are likely introspective, deep, and emotionally attuned — but may struggle with overthinking or indecision. If your chart is heavy in Fire, you are likely energetic, charismatic, and inspiring — but may struggle with burnout or impatience.

The elements that are weak or absent are not flaws. They are areas where you naturally need external support or conscious effort.

## 3. The Relationship Between Your Day Master and Your Month

Your Month Pillar represents your environment, your upbringing, and the demands your world places on you. The relationship between your Day Master's element and your Month Pillar's element tells you whether your core self and your environment are in harmony or tension.

If they are the same element (or the Month nourishes your Day Master), you grew up in conditions that supported who you naturally are. If they clash, you may have learned early that being yourself was not enough — you had to adapt, perform, or protect.

Neither is better. Both create different kinds of strength.

## 4. The Ten Gods Distribution

Your chart will list Ten Gods — archetypes like Output, Wealth, Authority, Resource, and Companion. These describe the cast of characters in your inner world.

- **Output** = self-expression. A lot of Output means you need to create, speak, write, or make things.
- **Wealth** = relationship with resources. A lot of Wealth means money and value are central themes.
- **Authority** = discipline and structure. A lot of Authority means you respond to rules, pressure, and recognition.
- **Resource** = learning and support. A lot of Resource means you grow through knowledge and mentorship.
- **Companion** = peers and self-identity. A lot of Companion means relationships and belonging are central.

Which god dominates your chart? That is your primary operating mode.

## 5. Your Current Luck Cycle

Scroll to the Luck Cycles section. Find the cycle that covers your current age. Note its Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch.

This is the elemental current you are swimming in right now. If your current Luck Cycle's element supports your Day Master, you are in a supportive season — things feel easier, opportunities align. If it clashes with your Day Master, you are in a challenging season — things feel harder, effort and outcome are not in proportion.

Neither means you are doing anything wrong. It means the conditions around you have changed. Recognizing the season changes what you see.
